Take Action: MPS Students Are at Risk of
Losing Free School Meals
Congress is considering changes to SNAP that could put free school meals for Milwaukee students at risk. Here's what you can do today.
The Farm Bill currently being debated in Congress includes changes that could reduce access to SNAP for many families. If fewer Milwaukee families are able to participate in SNAP, it could affect MPS's ability to qualify schools for the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), which allows schools to provide free meals to all students.
This isn't just about food assistance. It's about protecting access to free school breakfast and lunch for 65,000 Milwaukee students.
We need Milwaukee families, educators, and community members to speak up.

📞Call Script:
Hello, my name is [Name], and I live in Milwaukee.
I'm calling because I'm concerned that proposed SNAP cuts in the Farm Bill could hurt Milwaukee families and threaten access to free school meals in Milwaukee Public Schools.
SNAP enrollment determines eligibility for the Community Eligibility Provision, which allows MPS schools to provide free meals to all students. If fewer families can access SNAP, Milwaukee children could lose access to the healthy meals they rely on every day. Children will go hungry without free school meals. they will not be able to learn.
Please protect SNAP and support policies that keep free school meals available for Milwaukee students.
Thank you.

The Milwaukee Board of School Directors hosts Community Engagement Circles on the first Tuesday of every month. These virtual meetings give families and community members an opportunity to share ideas, ask questions, and learn how to participate in district decision-making.
School food, student wellness, and cafeteria improvements are all topics that deserve community input. We encourage parents, caregivers, and advocates to attend and make their voices heard.

Healthy school food doesn't happen by accident. It happens when students, families, educators, and community members work together to create schools where every child can thrive.
